The old passenger car

Prototype & Model

This passenger car model was made from a similar kit as the model of the prussian T3 steamer. I found a plastic bag in the Völkner shop in Braunschweig. This bag was filled with plastic components of old passenger car models and costed 5 German Marks. Although it was not clear what is inside but I thought for this price this does not have any importance. At home I grouped all these parts and I found components for five HO scale old, four wheeled passenger cars. None of them were complete. Three showed the shells for very old, small and short cars, first I thought they were narrow gauge ones, but this was not true. Unfortunately no mainframe or wheel suspension parts were available, thus these cars can become as abandoned old structures in a layout garden.

The fourth car was in better shape. This was the model of a side door compartement car. The set consisted the parts of the shell, most parts of the frame and even the window inserts - unfortunately not all of them. But this type of cars were already scrapped in the 1930s, the time I want to model. Thus I donated the parts to a friend.

The fifth set of components was the most interesting. This showed a passenger car that was very similar to those built in Austria in the 1880s, 1890s. (actually as I learned it later, the model was originally a car of the Württenberg Railways). Austrian cars were common in Hungary, mostly inherited from Austrian Companies that were overtaken by the Hungarian State Railway, MÁV.
