Models of the MÁV Gh-Class "hi-cube" freight cars

Gh car model etched components minipic Etched components for the Gh-Class freight car model. In the lower part of the picture you can see the wheel bearing guide of the second car, made from nickel silver. On the left four guides are still in the fret while on the right four pieces are already cut out and the underetched sharp edges are filed away.

The upper part of the photo shows an etched brass sheet containing the fixing bands of the car box. Now the slanted bands are made from one single etched part, for the simple G-Class boxcars these were made from three separated parts.

Gh car model superstructure minipic One superstructure box soldered together, the other one is still in separate components. The sheets are all from nickel silver, but the etched components and profiles are from brass. It is much easier to work with nickel silver than using brass sheets. The etched components are simply soldered on the nickel silver sheet surface, while this was not possible with brass, due to its much better thermal conductivity.

Gh car model roof minipic The special trapeze cross section roof of the Gh-Class car. On the left one can find the parts, on the right side there is a fully assembled roof. The roof is enforced by a special "skeleton" as the soldering heat could deform the trapeze shaped structure.

Gh car model minipic The ready-made but still unpainted Gh-Class car. The doors are sliding, of course.

Gh car model front view minipic The front view of the Gh-Class car model. It reflects well the appearence and proprtions of this interesting car.

Gh car models minipic Two Gh-Class cars together. There are few differences between them. The second one is equipped with curved bearing guides and its bearing box shows a newer, one-part friction bearing. The model in the front represents an older type, with wide, straight bearing guides and two-part friction bearing box. The superstructures are similar.
