Pictures of MÁV boxcars

MÁV old boxcars minipic On this old photo shows four boxcars on the nearest track. The first and fourth ones are of the old, wooden box type cars, while the second and third one are the newer steel bar reinforced types. Although the wheelbase is hard to estimate they seem to be the 4m wheelbase versions. The picture was made in the first decade of the 20th century, surely not before 1906. The loco on the nearby track is a Class 325, with the new type valvegear, that was built  in 1906.

Hungarian boxcar minipic I could take this photo in the Budapest Loco Museum during a switching job. This boxcar seems to be original, without refurbishment but still in a good shape. The sliding door is a newer type with horizontal planking.

MÁV boxcar minipic The G-class boxcar of the Loco Museum in Budapest. This is an authentic rebuild, verified by the MÁV Historic Commity. It is supposed to be painted to the old freight car color, although I find it a but too reddish. This picture was made by my friend, Attila Kirchner.

MÁV boxcar minipic Another boxcar, one with brakman's cab mounted at the end, in the workshop of the Museum.

MÁV Gh type freight car minipic This is the Hungarian high roof, long version boxcar. It was built between 1913 and 1927. A few members of this class survived. This one waits for a refurbishment in the yard of the Locomotive Museum Workshop. The picture was taken on March 8, 2003.
