Pictures of MÁV Class 411 "Truman" steamer
The S-160 Ameriacn War locomotive in original form.
It was designed to maintain all possible tracks in Europe.
Its width fits to British clearences, the height to Italian ones.
MÁV purchased 510 pieces of them in 1946.
The 411,118, member of the MÁV "Nostalgia" stock.
They were rebuilt in the '50s with new whistle,
larger cab, higher stack and a cover box over the turret.
They served long time in Hungary,
almost until the end of the steam era, 1986.
This picture was taken on the 1996 Locomotive show in Budapest.
The 411,358 on plinth in the area of the Hegyeshalom station,
the border station to Austria.
It is somehow symbolic to have a plinthed engine there,
where these locomotives arrived in Hungary in 1946.
The 424,009 and 411,118 side to side on the locomotive show.
Look at the height difference.
It shows that the S-160s were designed to maintain all European clearances,
the narrow British ones and the low Italian ones as well.
