The MÁV 324,540 on the 1993 Locomotive Show in Budapest. The Class 324 was developed in 1908, built first as compound engine, later as twin with both Brotan boiler and copper boiler. Later most Brotan boiler examples were retrofitted with a new, copper firebox boiler. Most people consider the Class 324 as the "most typical Hungarian steamer". Another picture about the MÁV 324,540 on the 1996 Locomotive Show in Budapest. The water cleaner, a usual equipment on all Hungarian steam locomotives was already removed in the '50s, when clean water was everywhere available and the water hardness was handled with chemical methods. |

The rods and valve gear of the 324,540. Quite similar to those of the Class 342, but there are also visible differences. The photo was taken on the locomotive show on 7th July 1993 in Budapest. There are also differences in the appearence in 1993 and 1996. On this pictute one can see the thin red lining on the cylinder block and the boiler that disappeared in 1996. The second version without lining is probably less nice but more authentical: the MÁV steamers had no lining. |
