Pictures of MÁV Class 302 (former Southern Class 109) steamer
The nicely refurbished SB/DV Class 109.109 (later MÁV 302,610). It performs
regularly museum trips with old passenger cars. The fast engines of the Souther
RR.'s Hungarian line were painted green and red. The Austrian engines were
always black. The photo was taken on the locomotive show on 7th July 1993
in Budapest.
This is the Slovenian Class 03-002, the former SB/DV Class 109.38. She, as
well as her younger sister, the Hungarian 109.109 was made in Floridsdorf,
near Vienna/Austria. This one was built in 1913, the 109.109 in 1917. While
the Hungarian loco was rebuilt to the original appearance (except the vacuum
brake), the Slovenian one shows the last form as it was serving in Yugoslavia.
You can observe the air reservoir on the footplate, the short stack with
small smoke deflectors and the different placement of the air pump. The photo
was taken on the locomotive show on 7th July 1993 in Budapest.
The 109.109 got a total overhaul in 2004. Here you can see the wheelsets nicely
ordered in the workshop. These pictures were taken on December 2nd
2004.
The main frame with the cylinder blocks in the workshop. This is a good occassion
to study all those parts that are usually hidden between the
framesides.
The boiler was put on a roller bank that allowed to turn it for better
access.
The new smokebox. You can see, the workers of the Istvántelke workshop
still can make nice rivets.
The main rod on the floor among the other rods. You can well see the two-part
bearing and the lubrication box on the top. The loco overhaul finished in
Summer 2005 and now she is again participating on steamer meetings and excursion
trips.
