Pictures of MÁV Class 301 steam engines

MÁV 301,002 locomotive, old picture The loco 301,002. This engine, the second built, can be still considered as prototype. It differs from the later machines. It is not yet equipped with water cleaner tank on the boiler top, the cab has a wedge-shape front. A small detail: the safety valves are positioned on the back side of the steam dome, on the later machines they faced forwards.

MÁV 301,020 locomotive, old picture This is a manufacturer's photo about the very last member of this Class, the 301,020. This picture shows the locomotive in a perfect side view. I used this photo to design the model. This helped to add details which were missing on the type drawings.

MÁV Class 301 locomotive, old picture This old photo shows the front view of the loco, with her proud engineer.

MÁV Class 301 renovated engine The famous rebuilt Class 301,016 in the Loco Museum in Budapest. She used to be in a really bad shape but in the year 2001 she was refurbished with a Government Aid. Unfortunately the rods were already missing, thus they are not original, they were cut and welded together from stocked Class 424 rods. The loco can be slowly towed with these rods, but not operate. The internal pistons and rods of the four cylinder eingine are missing anyways.

MÁV 301,016 steam locomotive The sister machine, the 301,006 in the museum's loco shed. She lacks of the cylinder blocks, thus she will probably never get rebuilt. The picture was made on August 15. 2002.
