Pictures of MÁV Class 220 steamer
This photo shows the Class I (later 220,194) engine of the MÁV "Nostalgia" stock.
This was built in 1889 by MÁVAG in Budapest.
The photo was taken on the locomotive show on 7th July 1993 in Budapest.
The same engine in service.
The Class I engines were long time the only fast passenger locos at MÁV.
They were operated for a long time,
even during the WW2 they hauled light fast trains.
The tender of the Class 220 loco.
All tenders were similar at MÁV in the 19th century,
just the freight engines had only handbrakes.
The tenders of the Classes 220, 221, 222 and 325,
and the mountain line engines were
equipped with Westinghouse brakes.
The locos themselves had no brakes.
The same tender. You can observe the rivet details.
The 220,194 is under a bigger overhaul in 2003 Winter.
Its boiler was burnt out last September and a total reconstruction was necessary.
Here the frame is on the workshop.
The picture was taken on March 8th 2003.
