Building the MÁV gas tank car model

MÁV gas tank car model minipic The gas tak construction. The body was turned from an aluminium tube, the diameter is 14.5mm. In order to have a flat, exact tubular structure, the tube was fixed in both ends. The template on the chuck end is conical, thus it can turn the tube.

MÁV gas tank car model minipic The head of the tanks is a brass plug, its elliptical cover was formed by a file, while turning in the lathe. This contains a smaller plug fixed in the center, this holds the pipe connection assembly. In the tank bottom there is a tiny ventillation hole, in order to avoid higher pressure of the internal air, if the ambient temperature increases.
