The MÁV Class M41 Diesel hydraulic locomotive

Prototype & Model M41 loco model minipic

The M41Diesel hydraulic locomotive is a very common engine in Hungary. 112 examples are running around, mainly on head of branchline passenger trains. They can be found on some non-electrified mainlines too, if their limited hauling capacity is still sufficient for shorter trains.

MAV M41 diesel hydraulic loco minipic The only mass produced HO scale model of a Hungarian locomotive is the M41 of the company Fuggerth. It has been sold with two different drivetrains, first with truck motors, later with central motor, cardan shafts and worm drive. None of them were equipped with a flywheel.

My model building activity was basically to build a better drive for the loco. This is no "real" scratch building, as the cab and trucksides were taken over from the Fuggerth model, only the drive was a construction from scratch.
